Japanese pianist to perform jazz in Hanoi

Yamashita Yosuke, a pianist from Japan will give a performance in the Spring Jazz Concert, which will take place at Hanoi Opera House from March 12-13.

During the two-day event, Yosuke will perform Gershwin’s classic jazz. He will also perform a piece of jazz in combination with the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra (VNSO).

Especially, the pianist will play his compositions with an energetic and inspirational style, which are usually compared with those of the famous American jazz musician, Cecil Taylor.

Born in 1942 to a well-known family in Tokyo , Japan , Yosuke began playing music professionally at the age of 17 in 1959. He can play both classic and popular music. Yosuke played music frequently in international concerts, especially in the famous jazz festivals.

Yosuke established the Yosuke Yamashita New York Trio in 1988. In 1994 he was invited to perform at the 50th anniversary concert of jazz label Verve, held at Carnegie Hall, becoming the sole Asian musician to play at the event.

He has also written music for Japan ’s works of cinema. The pianist was awarded a medal of purple ribbon by the Japanese Government for his contribution to the country’s music in 2003./.
