Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will make an official visit to Malaysia from July 25, beginning his tour of Southeast Asia which also includes Singapore and the Philippines, announced the Foreign Ministry of Malaysia.
During the two-day visit, PM Abe is scheduled to hold talks with Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak on bilateral, regional and international issues.
The two leaders are also expected to discuss the expansion of economic ties based on the priorities of the two countries.
This is the second visit to Malaysia by PM Abe, aiming at strengthening bilateral ties and stepping up cooperation towards enabling Malaysia achieve its vision of becoming a high-income nation by 2020.
His first visit to Malaysia was in August 2007 in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of bilateral relations between the two countries.
Japan is one of Malaysia's major trading partners in the East Asian region, second after China , with two-way trade reaching 47 billion USD in 2012.
In terms of investment, Japan was the biggest foreign investor in the 1980-2012 period, with total investment touching 22 billion USD that created more than 300,000 jobs.-VNA
