The Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on July 22 announced that Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will make an official visit to the Philippines from July 26-27.
The announcement was made a day after Abe's ruling coalition Liberal Democratic Party won Japan's upper house elections on July 21.
During his visit, Prime Minister Abe and Philippine President Benigno Aquino III will discuss bilateral cooperation and regional issues as well as ways to further advance the Strategic Partnership between the two countries.
Abe's last visit to the Philippines was in 2006 in his first term as head of the Japanese Government.
According to DFA, Japan is one of only two strategic partners of the Philippines . In 2012, Japan was the Philippines ’ number one trade partner and provider of official development assistance.
It was the second major source of approved investments for the Philippine and ranked third in the number of arrivals to this Southeast Asian nation.-VNA
