The Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC), also known as the Khmer Rouge Tribunal, will need 33.8 million USD for its 2015 operations, said the ECCC in a statement on April 21.
Of the 33.8 million USD, 27.1 million is for international components and 6.7 million is for national efforts.
Acting Director of the Office of Administration Kranh Tony called on stakeholders to provide funding to ensure judicial proceedings can move forward without interruptions.
The ECCC said the tribunal’s expenditure in 2014 was 27.8 million USD, including 6.1 million USD for Cambodian initiatives.
The operation of the UN-backed court has been halted several times in recent years due to funding shortages.
The ECCC is a special court established in 2006 within Cambodia, intending to seek and deliver justice for victims of the genocidal Khmer Rouge regime which claimed the lives of 1.7 million Cambodians from 1975 to 1979.
Japan, the US and Australia are the largest financial contributors to the ECCC, whose operations have cost about 204.5 million USD so far.-VNA
