Kien Giang effectively uses international aid

The provincial People’s Committee reported that as many as 30 INGOs were implementing 33 projects in the locality.

Since 2010, Kien Giang has received assistance from a large number ofNGOs, with over 690 billion VND (nearly 32 million USD) beingdisbursed. The funding was mainly used to build infrastructure, protectthe environment and preserve biodiversity.

Themanagement and utilisation of funding complied with the programmes andprojects’ objectives as well as the State’s current regulations on theapproval and implementation of NGO projects, the People’s Committeesaid.

Delegates from the Committee for INGO Affairsasked the local chapter of the Vietnam Union of FriendshipOrganisations to call for more support from INGOs in the locality andimprove links with those already operating in the province.

The committee said it would work closely with Kien Giang and otherlocalities to share information and facilitate INGO activities, thuscontributing to poverty reduction and socio-economic development inVietnam.-VNA
