Korean artists resumes mural project in fishing commune

Ten artists from the Republic of Korea have resumed painting a mural in the coastal Tam Thanh commune in Tam Ky city of Quang Nam province.

Quang Nam (VNA) - Ten artists from theRepublic of Korea have resumed painting a mural in the coastal Tam Thanhcommune in Tam Ky city of Quang Nam province.

It is part of the Korea FoundationCommunity Art Exchange Programme.

It is two years since the team firststarted the project. They will now check on their earlier work and paint 20 newmurals on other houses for the rest of this month.

The city’s administration said RoK artiststurned the old walls of 100 houses in the commune into colourful murals,depicting portraits of villagers, local scenes and regional panoramas in thefirst stage in 2016.

The commune then launched a community-basedart space as part of a tourism development pilot project with an aim topromoting the commune into a favourite eco-tour site after UNESCO-recognisedheritage sites Hoi An town, My Son Sanctuary and World biosphere Cham Island-HoiAn.

Tam Thanh village has a 6km coastline and atranquil environment, and tourists can easily connect from there with Tam Ky andHoi An city. It welcomes around 500 visitors each day, and 2,000 tourists on weekends.

Last year, the Tam Thanh art communityvillage was awarded the 2017 Asian Townscape Award for its colourful murals inFukuoka City, Japan.

It’s also the first project in Vietnam thatcombines art space with community lifestyle.

Last year, artists from SingaporeTechnology and Design University, Vietnam’s Fine Arts Association, colleges in Hanoiand local painters joined painting on coracles for an exhibition in Tam Thanhcommune.

Photographers from the Republic of Korea,the Philippines and Turkey had a photo trip to the commune for an exhibition inSeoul and other cities in 2017.-VNA

Exhibition on President Ho Chi Minh opens at EXPO 2025 in Japan

Bookcase project helps spread Vietnamese language in Thailand

Featuring 600 titles, the bookcase offers a diverse range of content suitable for all ages and proficiency levels. It includes colorful picture books for young children who are beginners in their mother tongue, as well as textbooks and reference materials for students at Vietnamese language schools across Thailand.
