A grenade exploded in downtown Kuala Lumpur, the Malaysian capital, on October 9, killing one and injuring 13, local media reported.
The injured include a Singaporean national, four Chinese women, one Thai national and seven Malaysians.
Malaysia’s New Straits Times quoted Khairy Ahrasa, Deputy Chief of the Kuala Lumpur Criminal Investigation Department, who said two hand grenades were thrown from the second floor of a building in the city centre’s Sun Complex. Only one grenade exploded, while the second was destroyed by the police, he said.
Meanwhile, Malaysian Minister of Home Affairs Ahmad Zahid Hamidi called on residents to remain calm, adding that the explosion is under investigation and a terrorist motive cannot be confirmed at this time.-VNA
