Lao Cai to host international trade fair

The northern border province of Lao Cai has made great efforts to link China's south-western localities with Vietnamese provinces and cities, said the provincial People's Committee vice chairman Nguyen Thanh Duong at an Oct. 18press conference in Hanoi.

The province has upgraded transport infrastructure and improvedfacilities in the Lao Cai International Border-gate Economic Zone whileexpanding its Kim Thanh Economic Zone to facilitate Vietnamese andChinese businesses, Duong said.

"The province iscooperating with China 's Yunnan province to build the Kunming-LaoCai-Hanoi-Hai Phong economic corridor, which will make an effectivecontribution to accelerating the bilateral relationships, especially intrade and tourism," he said.

Lao Cai will also join handswith Yunnan authorities to organise the Vietnam-China InternationalTrade Fair 2011 in the province from November 11-16.

Inits 11th outing, the event will be the largest of its kind in thenorthern border region and provide an opportunity for businesses fromthe two countries to advertise their products, better understand eachother's demand and seek new trade partners, said Deputy Minister ofIndustry and Trade Nguyen Thanh Bien.

It will also offerprovinces in the region opportunities to introduce advantages andpotentials as well as projects seeking investment capital from Chineseinvestors, he said.

This event is expected to attract theparticipation of about 300 enterprises showcasing goods at 700pavilions, said the provincial Trade, Investment and Tourism PromotionCentre director Le Tien Dung.

Displays will includeagricultural products, seafood, automobiles, machinery and equipment,electronics, clothing, footwear, furniture and handicraft, he said.

A forum aimed at fostering trade and investment relations betweenVietnamese and Chinese firms will be held on the sideline of the tradefair.

At the previous exhibition in 2009, 14 contracts worth 114 million USD were signed between Vietnamese and Chinese partners./.

Vietnam, ADB to advance strategic projects with strong economic impact

ADB has identified a pipeline of 27 projects for Vietnam through 2029, with total planned financing of approximately 4.6 billion USD. The projects focus on sectors that are among Vietnam’s priorities, including infrastructure, energy, urban development, agriculture and public sector management.

Exports gain momentum from high-tech growth drivers

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Vietnam’s exports reached 215.66 billion USD in the first five months of 2026, up 19.5% year-on-year. Twenty-six export items generated more than 1 billion USD in revenue each, including seven with turnover exceeding 10 billion USD.

The conference also highlighted the role of digital technologies in building next-generation FTZs. Proposed solutions included the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), big data, cloud computing and digital customs systems to improve operational efficiency, streamline logistics, accelerate customs procedures and enhance transparency for investors.
