Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense of Laos Lieutenant General Douangchay Phichit paid a courtesy call on Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra on the occasion of his visit to Thailand to attend the Thai-Lao Joint Border Commission (JBC) meeting, according to the National News Bureau of Thailand.
While visiting Yingluck at Thai Khu Fah Building at Government House, Lt. Gen. Douangchay said that he considered the opportunity to meet with the Thai premier a great honor. In his capacity as National Defense Minister, he also stated that the Thai and Lao armies have shared a longstanding tie of over 10 years and the Thai-Lao border has always been peaceful, which helps facilitate tourism and trade between the two countries.
In return, Prime Minister Yingluck expressed her appreciation for the Lao Deputy Prime Minister’s participation in the Thai-Lao JBC meeting. She also expressed sincere hope that the meeting will serve to further enhance the friendship between the two nations.
Meanwhile, the Thai Prime Minister encouraged more bilateral cooperation at all levels, confirming that Thailand is willing to give full support to its neighbor. Additionally, she extended an official invitation to the Lao Prime Minister to visit Thailand in the future./.
