Lao parliament opens seventh session

The 9th-tenure National Assembly (NA) of Laos officially opened the 7th ordinary sitting in Vientiane on June 10 to discuss many issues of national importance.

Vientiane (VNA) - The 9th-tenure National Assembly (NA) of Laos officially opened the 7th ordinary sitting in Vientiane on June 10 to discuss many issues of national importance.

The opening session also saw the presence of Party General Secretary and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith, Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, along with incumbent and former Party and State leaders of Laos.

NA President Xaysomphone Phomvihane said that legislators will scrutinise the PM's report on the implementation of the national socio-economic development, state budget and monetary plans, as well as the national agenda on addressing economic and financial difficulties and another on drug-related issues during the first six months of 2024, and the plans for the second half.

The Ministry of Planning and Investment, the Ministry of Finance, and the Bank of Laos will provide detailed reports on the implementation of the plans during the first half of 2024 and targets set for the remaining six months.

The meeting will consider and vote on 13 laws, comprising two new and 11 amended ones. It will also look into a report on the necessity of and orientation for amending the 2015 Constitution.

The sitting is scheduled to last until July 2./.
