Laos announces climate change response strategy

Laos on June 26 launched a national strategy on climate change towards 2030 and a booklet about the issue that aims to build its climate change resilience on June 27.

Vientiane (VNA) – Laos on June 26 launched a national strategy on climate change towards 2030 and a booklet about the issue that aims to build its climate change resilience on June 27.

At the launching ceremony, Lao Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Phouvong Luangxaysana said the Lao government places a strong emphasis on efforts to resolve the climate change issue.

The ministry is currently formulating a low greenhouse gas emissions strategy and a decree on carbon credit, he said, adding the important policies and legislatives documents will be used as a framework by government bodies at the central and local levels to carry out the work required to slow climate change.

The Lao government is also working towards the net zero target by 2050./.
