Laos, Australia to expand bilateral ties

Lao Prime Minister Thongsinh Thammavong has met with Australia’s Foreign Minister Bob Carr who is on a visit to the Southeast Asian nation from February 17-20.

During the meeting in Vientiane on February 20, Thammavong expressed his hope that Australia will enhance cooperation and investment in Laos in the time to come.

Carr informed the host of the outcomes of the talks between the two foreign ministries, in which the two sides agreed to deepen bilateral ties in both politics and economics.

He said Australia will further assist Laos in education, sustainable growth in trade and investment, rural development, clearance of unexploded ordinance (UXO) and infrastructure development in rural communities.

On the occasion, the two sides signed an agreement on Australia’s aid worth of 5 million AUD to help Laos expand trade and improve its economic competitiveness./.
