The Health Ministry of Laos, in collaboration with the World Health Organisation and several international organisations, held a workshop on health care for people with disabilities (PWDs) in the 2015-2020 period in Vientiane on August 20-21.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister Bounkong Sihavong said the Lao Party and Government always encourage the equal right of PWDs in accessing medical check-ups and treatment. Rehabilitation for the PWDs is an important, strategic and long-term task in line with the country’s socio-economic development and poverty reduction plan, he said.
Issues tabled for discussion included a five-year plan on providing care and rehabilitation for disabled people and on how to help them deal with unemployment and integrate into the community.
They also spoke highly of the performance of the National Committee for Disabled Persons, which has so far issued and carried out a lot of policies protecting rights and interests of the disabled, such as healthcare, rehabilitation, education, and vocational training.-VNA
