Laos fortifies security for upcoming 44th, 45th ASEAN Summits

Lao authorities are ramping up security for the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and related meetings scheduled to take place in Vientiane from October 8-11.

Vientiane (VNA) – Lao authorities are ramping up security for the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and related meetings scheduled to take place in Vientiane from October 8-11.

On October 3, head of the Vientiane Traffic Police Department Sen. Lt. Col. Sangkhom Phommalath revealed a plan involving over 200 checkpoints manned by more than 700 officers to manage traffic and ensure the safe and smooth movement of senior leaders and representatives from various countries and international organisations attending the summits. All preparations have to date been completed.

On this occasion, Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone also called on all officials, military personnel, public security officers, and people of ethnic groups of Laos to actively perform their respective duties, roles and responsibilities to ensure the success of the meetings./.
