Laos welcomed 4.15 million foreign visitors in 2014, up 10 percent from 2013, according to statistics released by the Lao Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism.
The statistics showed that Thai visitors topped the charts with over 2 million, followed by Vietnamese with 1.1 million and Chinese with 422,000.
The number of Europeans vacationing in the country slightly decreased due to economic decline while those from the US, the Middle East, and Africa were on the rise.
Currently, Laos is working to lure visitors to stay longer through improving the quality of services and tourism products as well as opening more tourist destinations.
The country is famed for the mysterious Plain of Jars as well as two cultural sites in the World Heritage List, including the Town of Luang Prabang and Vat Phou temple.-VNA
