Laos to change cabinet positions

Lao Vice Ministers and provincial Governors will take up new positions in the cabinet, as decided at a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong on July 8.

Accordingly, Governor of Bokeoprovince Khammanh Sounvileuth is set to fill the vacancy of Minister ofHome Affairs, left by former Minister Xaysi Santivong who will assumeanother post.

Luang Prabang Governor Khampheng Saysomphengwill become Minister of Labour and Social Welfare, replacing retiringminister Onechanh Thammavong.

The retirement ofMinister to the President’s Office Phongsavath Boupha will lead to hisrole being occupied by outgoing governor of Vientiane province KhammeungPhongthady.

Minister for the Government’s Office Sommad Pholsenawill replace retiring Noulinh Sinbandhit as Minister of NaturalResources.

National executive changes also includethe promotion of Phet Phomphiphak to the position of Minister ofAgriculture and Forestry. Acting minister of Public Security BrigadierSomkeo Silavong will take on the full role of Minister.

This is the largest reform of the Lao cabinet since 2011.-VNA
