A number of films featuring Latin America will be shown to a Vietnamese audience from October 6-11 in Hanoi.
The event is co-organised by several Latin American embassies, including the embassies of Argentina, Cuba, Haiti and Venezuela.
Venezuelan Ambassador Jorge Rondón Uzcategui said the film week aimed to bring Latin American cinema and culture closer to the Vietnamese audience. He recommended that Vietnam and Venezuela cooperate in making films in the future.
He said he hoped the two countries’ film industries work together to make a film on Nguyen Van Troi, a young Vietnamese hero during the war against the US, who is well-known amongst the Venezuelan people.
According to Mexican Ambassador Gilberto Limón Enríquez the event is part of a series of activities to promote Latin American culture in Vietnam. He also said he hopes that the films would be screened on television so that the Vietnamese audience can access the art of making films from the region.
Meanwhile, Jean Lesly Benoit, Haitian Ambassador said the Latin American Week is among activities aiming to boost cultural exchange between Vietnam and Latin America in general and between Vietnam and Haiti in particular. More events will be held, including a Haitian Cultural Week slated for January 2015.
The second Latin American Film Week will take place at Cinematheque, 22A Hai Ba Trung street in Hanoi. It will open with “To fool a thief” by young Argentinean director Ariel Winograd.
Additionally, “Bolívar, Man of difficulties” from Venezuela and “Toussaint Louverture”, which tells the story of the leader of the Haitian slaves during the war against the French, are also being screened.-VNA
