Manchester United (MU) ambassador and former goalie Peter Schmeichel will visit Vietnam at the invitation of the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV).
He will attend the signing of a cooperative agreement between his club and BIDV in Hanoi on April 24 before meeting with fans at an event to introduce the BIDV-MU Bronze Card in Ho Chi Minh City one day later.
MU players’ gifts, including the club’s jersey and ball with signatures of all the first squad, Peter Schmeichel’s gloves and famous defender Rio Ferdinand’s shoes will come up for a charity auction to be held by BIDV on April 25.
Proceeds from the auction will be presented to the Know the Heart Foundation to provide free heart surgery for Vietnamese children.
As the most outstanding goalkeeper in the club’s history and in the world, Peter won five Premier League titles, three FA Cups and one Champions League after more than a decade playing for Manchester United.
He was the decisive factor behind the club’s great triple in 1999 together with a dream team of other legends, including Ryan Giggs, David Beckham, Roy Kean and Paul Scholes.
The International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS) has chosen him as one of the ten best goalkeepers in the 20th century.
His name was listed at the English Football Hall of Fame in 2003 and also one of the FIFA100 selected by the King of Football Pele.-VNA
