Four farmers participating in the film project called “Youfarm- Canh dong que toi” ( Youfarm- Paddy Fields in my Hometown), the first of its kind in Vietnam, were granted awards at a ceremony held in the Mekong Delta province of Long An on July 3.
First prize belonged to “Cha va con- The farmer and his son” by Huynh Van Nen. “Tren canh dong cha ong- Develop father’s rice and homeland” by Nguyen Van Thanh was in second while, “Nha nong va cong nghe- Technology and farming” by Duong Van Uoc and “Ruong nha toi- My farming My Family” by Duong Thi Sua received the third and fourth prizes.
All the films, made by the farmers with the support from three emerging Vietnamese directors, are about the famers’ field works, cultivation and daily lives.
According to the number of votes from the website of International Youfarm competition, two clips of Vietnamese farmers have been listed in top 30 of the global competition.
The annual competition, initiated by Bayer CropScience, aims to improve public understanding about farmers’ roles in society. “Farm and Family” is the theme of this year’s event, which was chosen by 500 million family farms worldwide.
The competition’s winner will be announced in August. The first prize winner will be granted the “Farmer around the Continent” tour, travelling through Asia (starting from Canberra, Australia) and visiting farms and other great sites.-VNA
