Hanoi (VNA) - The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) arrested Sundra Rajoo, a judge from FIFA’s ethics committee, on suspicion of corruption on November 21.
Rajoo, a native of Malaysia, resigned from his position as director of the Malaysia-based Asian International Arbitration Centre the same day.
He was accused of using his position at the centre for financial favours.
Rajoo’s lawyer Cheow Wee said his client pledged to cooperate with the MACC in the investigation, but stressed that the commission has no right to arrest Rajoo.
Rajoo was appointed as one of two deputy chairmen of the FIFA ethics committee’s adjudicatory chamber in 2017.
Since Rajoo joined FIFA, ethics judges have passed several life bans on football officials implicated in bribery by a sprawling US department of justice investigation.-VNA
