Hanoi (VNA) – More than150 foreigners aged between 20-45, have been detained by the MalaysianImmigration Department for various offences including not having identificationdocuments, possession of fake work permits and other offences under theImmigration Act 1959/63 (revised in 2002).
The group of foreigners wasarrested during an operation in a residential area in Kuala Lumpur, Deputy Director-GeneralJaafar Mohamed was quoted by the Vietnam News Agency reporters as saying on May26.
According to the official, 120 membersfrom the department were involved in the operation following reports from localsover a public disturbance in the area.
Several officers were injuredduring the raid because some of the foreigners acted aggressively.
Last week, the agency detained125 illegal guest workers, including 20 women in the capital city’s downtown.
Those detained were fromIndonesia, India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan, the Philippines, andAfghanistan, aged between 25-40.
Since early this year, Malaysialaunched nearly 6,000 raids, examined 62,654 foreigners and arrested nearly18,000 ones.-VNA
