Kuala Lumpur (VNA) - Malaysian police said on September 21 that they have arrested seven Filipinos suspected to be members of the Abu Sayyaf militant group.
National police chief Mohamad Fuzi Harun said the seven men, aged between 22 and 38, were captured in a counter-terrorism crackdown on September 14.
These suspects worked as security guards with private companies in Kuala Lumpur and surrounding areas. One of them, 22 years old, had previously engaged in battles against Filipino troops and kidnappings in the southern Philippines.
The Abu Sayyaf group now has about 400 Islamist militants, who are notorious for bombings, ransom kidnappings and beheadings in the southern Philippines.-VNA
