Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – The Governments of Malaysia and China signed a Memorandum of Understanding on water resources in Kuala Lumpur on April 10.

Malaysian Minister of Natural Resources and the Environment Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said his ministry has cooperated with China via a committee known as the Typhoon Committee, which was set up by the United Nation in 1968, but the new MoU marks the formal cooperation between the two countries.

He added that the signing of the MoU provides a good chance for Malaysia to access China’s professional knowledge in this field.

Under the MoU, the two countries can share technologies and expertise in integrated management, preservation and protection of water resources, response to climate change, and drought and flood control.

The document also serves as the foundation for technical and research cooperation between their water resource agencies.-VNA
