Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – Malaysian Transport Minister Anthony Loke on May 31 said that his country wants to strengthen cooperation with China in artificial intelligence (AI) with focus placed on education and training.
Speaking on Bernama’s TV programme “Roundtable: 50 Years of Malaysia-China Friendship”, Loke said that China is focusing on developing high technology, especially AI – the area that Malaysia is paying much attention to.
He emphasised that the two countries can strengthen cooperation in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education.
Loke highlighted TVET as a key focus for Malaysia's education system, aiming to equip students with practical, workforce-ready skills.
“Strong emphasis is being placed on TVET, and we have a strong collaborative partnership with China in this area. China has offered many opportunities for our students to receive TVET training, and vice versa. We hope to see even more collaboration in the future," he said.
Lin Shiguang, Minister-Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Malaysia, said that bilateral cooperation helps the two countries to solve the shortage of high-quality human resources when implementing major projects. China is promoting STEM education, particularly AI, cloud computing, data centres and emerging technologies.
On May 30, Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced that 220 Chinese companies are offering 5,125 places to Malaysian students for short-, medium- and long-term training related to TVET./.
