Malaysia launches ASEAN ministerial meeting retreat

The ASEAN Foreign Ministers (AMM) Retreat kicked off with the attendance of 200 participants from ten member states in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia on January 26.

The conference runs until January 29 and includes meetings of the Committee of Permanent Representatives (CPR) and the ASEAN Coordinating Council Working Group (ACCWG), as well as the ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting (SOM).

The three-day event is organised as the first ASEAN ministerial meeting under Malaysia’s Chairmanship.

To ensure the security at the conference’s location and in surrounding areas, 17 security committees have been established with 650 policemen deployed, said Director of the Internal Security and Public Order Department Muhammad Fuad Abu Zarim.

Nearly 180 Malaysian and foreign journalists are registered to cover news from the event.-VNA
