Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – Malaysia has become the first country in ASEAN and the fifth in Asia to ratify the Minimum Wage Fixing Convention or Convention 131.
Minister for Human Resources Richard Riot Jaem said Malaysia deposited the document of ratification to the International Labour Organisation (ILO) at the 105th International Labour Conference, which is taking place in Geneva, Switzerland.
According to the Malaysian Government, from July 1, the country’s minimum wage will increase from 900 MYR (around 225 USD) to 1,000 MYR (250 USD) for workers in the peninsular area and from 800 MYR (200 USD) to 920 MYR (230 USD) for those in Sabah Sarawak, and Labuan states.-VNA
