Malaysia reports two more Zika cases

Kuala Lumpur (VNA)
– Malaysia has confirmed two other cases inflected with Zika virus, raising the total number of infections in the country to six, the Health Ministry reported on September 13. 

Health Minister S.Subramaniam said the patients are two sisters, including a 35-year-old pregnant woman who is now in the second month of pregnancy. She was tested positive for the virus after suffering from a prolonged fever, flu and sore throat. She has been treated in Miri hospital in the northern province of Sarawak.

The patient had worked in Singapore and visited the country from July 24-29. Her 39- year-old sister, who lives in Kuala Lumpur, is now under treatment at a local hospital.

The elder visited her younger sister in Miri hospital on August 26 and left for Kuala Lumpur on September 6. Vector control measures have been implemented in the residential areas of the two patients.

Malaysia confirmed the first Zika-infected case on September 1. The patient was a 58-year-old woman in Klang, Selangor State who was reported to get infected with the virus after returning from Singapore.-VNA
