Malaysia's Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim (right) and his German counterpart inspect the guard of honour in Berlin, Germany (Photo:Bernama) Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – German Prime Minister OlafScholz held talks with his Malaysian counterpart Anwar Ibrahim on March 12, who is on asix-day official visit to Germany, to discuss measures to bolsterthe bilateral relations and issues of mutual concern.
The two leaders discussed the progress of Malaysia-Germanyrelations, particularly economic cooperation, education, environment, export ofpalm oil, as well as exchanged views on global issues of mutual interest,including the humanitarian crisis in Gaza Strip.
PM Anwar welcomed more German businesses to takeadvantage of Malaysia’s strategic location in Southeast Asia and its developedinfrastructure as a preferred investment destination.
He highlighted that Germany is its largest trading partner inEuropean Union with total investment of nearly 15 billion USD.
Leading German companies, including Infineon TechnologiesAG, have chosen Malaysia as their important hub, he said, adding that Malaysia looks forward to greater collaboration, not only inenhancing trade and investment but also to strengthening bilateral relations inall fields, he said.
For his part, the German PM expressed his desire tofurther strengthen the partnership between the two countries. He said this is completely consistent with Germany's goal of diversifying economicrelationships in the world, especially in Asia.
The two sides emphasised the need to establish alasting ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, release hostages and provide immediatehumanitarian assistance for the Palestinian people.
In addition, the two leaderscalled on the international community to strive to achieve a two-statesolution to resolve the decades-long conflict in the Middle East.
In 2023, Malaysia’s total trade with Germany increased by5.9% to 13.56 billion USD as compared to12.79 billion USD in 2022. There are over 700 German companies based inMalaysia, creating 65,000 jobs./.
