Malaysia seventh largest FDI recipient in Asia

Malaysia is the seventh top recipient of foreign direct investment (FDI) in Asia, revealed the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development’s (UNCTAD) World Investment Report 2014 on June 25.

The report said the country had a new record year of investment in the manufacturing, services and primary sectors in 2013, with a 22 percent FDI increase valued at 12 billion USD, compared with the 9 percent increase in global FD.

Net FDI inflows into Malaysia grew by 9.06 billion USD in 2010 to 12.19 billion USD in 2011, and 10.07 billion USD in 2012.

UNCTAD head of investment trend and issue branch from the division on investment and enterprise Masataka Fujita said global FDI growth is expected to continue in the years to come.

Asia continues to be a popular FDI region, accounting for 30 percent of the global inflows.-VNA
