Kuala Lumpur (VNA) - The Malaysian government has pledged to review the existing system for the import of foreign workers to eradicate monopolies by companies, said Malaysian Human Resources Minister M. Kulasegaran on July 28.
He said the ministry is aware of problems in the system governing the recruitment of foreign workers, especially those involving middlemen.
The issue has become severe as the Nepal government recently suspended the export of workers to Malaysia, affecting the Southeast Asia.
Apart from Nepal, other countries, including Bangladesh, Cambodia and Indonesia, are showing dissatisfaction in sending workers to Malaysia, according to the minister.
Minister Kulasegaran said authorised agencies are in the process of drafting a policy on how to manage the import of foreign workers from the source countries. The Malaysian government is looking for mechanisms to simplify the procedures related to importing foreign workers, including the elimination of a third party.
There are about 1.8 million legal foreign workers in Malaysia.-VNA
