Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – The 10th edition of the Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS) 2024 that took place from December 5-11 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) attracted 250,000 visitors.
Speaking to the media, Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Fadillah Yusof, who is also Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, said the country’s national energy transition plan focuses on greening the transport sector to reduce emissions from both private and commercial vehicles.
He emphasised that Malaysia remains committed to reducing carbon emissions, with transport being one of the largest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions.
According to Yusof, KLIMS 2024 has demonstrated a profound shift from traditional transport methods to innovative, sustainable, and integrated mobility solutions. KLIMS 2024 was an ideal venue to witness the technological innovations in the automotive industry, particularly in the fields of electric and hybrid vehicles.
He said that the Malaysian government has taken several measures to encourage the electric vehicle (EV) industry, such as the establishment of charging infrastructure and full exemptions on import, excise, and sales duties for EVs. Specifically, in the 2025 budget, the government announced a significant allocation of 4.95 billion MYR (over 1.1 billion USD) for the national energy transition roadmap, aimed at promoting initiatives for renewable energy and energy efficiency, including the development of 3,171 EV charging stations nationwide.
This policy emphasises energy-efficient vehicles and sustainable mobility solutions, laying the groundwork for Malaysia's transition towards a greener transport network. This strategic move is expected to bolster Malaysia's position as a key player in the global automotive manufacturing sector.
KLIMS 2024 showcased the latest product lines, focusing on sustainability, electrification, and autonomous vehicles. The exhibition was jointly organised by the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) and Automotive Robotics & IoT Institute (MARii), an agency under the Ministry of International Trade, and Industry./.
