Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – The Parliament of Malaysia sat for the first time on May 18 since the PN government came to power, with King Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Ahmad Shah’s speech being the only item on agenda.
The meeting, initially scheduled to take place from May 9 to April 16, was suspended to May 18 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
It had planned to look into four proposals and two draft laws. However, after Speaker of the House of Representatives Mohamad Ariff Mohd Yusof accepted former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad’s proposed vote of no-confidence against incumbent PM Muhyiddin Yassin, the government decided to shorten the initial agenda.
Earlier, at a meeting with leaders of parties under the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition on May 17, Mahathir again opposed the government led by Muhyiddin. After the meeting, he and President of the Sabah Heritage Party Shafie Apdal said the Muhyiddin-led government lacks legitimacy./.
