Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak has reaffirmed his country’s commitment to the Tran-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPP) negotiations on the occasion of the Australian Prime Minister’s recent visit to Malaysia.
Speaking at a joint press conference with his Australian counterpart, Tony Abbott in Putrajaya, Malaysia’s administrative capital, during the visit, Najib said TTP agreement is an important undertaking, and Malaysia wants to be part of it, provided his country’s concerns can be accommodated in the final outcome.
He added that he and PM Abbott have agreed Malaysia and Australia will continue to work together to make progress in the negations for the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), looking forward to concluding the negotiations in 2015.
Last year, Australia was Malaysia’s ninth largest trading partner, with two-way trade turnover reaching 61.9 billion RM (19.5 billion USD).
The same year, Australia’s total investment in Malaysia stood at 28.9 billion RM (9.1 billion USD) and Malaysia’s total investment in Australia amounted to 50.9 billion RM (16 billion USD).-VNA
