Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – The Malaysian authorities have called for people’s calmness and cooperation with the government in the fight against terrorism following the first attack carried out by the so-called Islamic State on the Malaysian territory.
Lieutenant Colonel Ajaya Kumar, a PhD researcher on radical Islam and its impact on internal security in Malaysia at the National Defence University, was cited by Malaysia’s newswire thestar.com.my that the Malaysian should carry on with their daily lives and not bow to fear that terrorists are trying to enter the country.
People should heighten vigilance and call the police if they find anyone acting suspiciously, he added.
Earlier on June 28, a grenade explosion at the Movida Kitchen, Bar & Club Lounge in Puchong city, the central state of Selangor, left eight people injured and the police confirmed that it was carried out by the IS.
Deputy Minister of the Prime Minister’s Department for Islamic Affairs Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki urged Malaysians to become part of the anti-terrorism fight and not leave it to the police.
Armed Forces Chief Zulkifeli Mohd Zin also called locals to become “ears and eyes” of the security force.
Bernama, Malaysia’s news agency, quoted Zulkifeli Mohd Zin as saying that people are the government’s most important resource in ensuring national security. He recommended people quickly report the government any abnormal signs for timely handling.-VNA
