Malaysia’s per capita income up 42.5 percent from 2009

Malaysia ’s news agency Bernama quoted the Performance Management and Delivery Unit (Pemandu) as saying that since the launch of the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) in 2010, private investment has recorded a strong surge, growing 15.3 percent from 2010 to 2013.

"In 2013 alone, private investment reached 161.1 billion RM, surpassing its target of 148.4 billion RM by 8.6 percent," it said in a statement.

It said employment wise, sectors within the National Key Economic Areas (NKEAs) created a total of 1.3 million additional high value jobs in the past three years.

Pemandu said according to data from the Employees Provident Fund (EPF), wages of 2,000 RM and above reached 52 percent of Malaysian workers in March, a growth of 8 percent from 44 percent recorded in 2009.

It said the trend was also supported by the 2012 Household Income Survey by the Department of Statistics.

"The recently released study found the average monthly income of Malaysian households rise from 4,025 RM in 2009 to 5,000 RM in 2012, an annual increase of 7.2 percent," it added.-VNA
