Dien Chau district currently boasts more than 260 hectares of mangrove forests.
Stretching nearly 10 kilometres along the Bung River before reaching Lach Van Estuary, the verdant expanse of mangrove forests is a robust defence against waves and strong winds, effectively safeguarding vulnerable embankments.
In Dien Bich commune, Dien Chau district, 40 hectares of mangrove forests cover tidal flats, enveloping nearly 3 kilometres of coastal embankments to prevent saline intrusion.
The mangrove forests have also provided abundant aquatic resources, supporting the livelihoods of hundreds of households engaged in fishing for shrimp, crab, fish, clams, and snails.
In 2022, the People’s Committee of Nghe An province issued a plan to implement the “Protection and development of coastal forests to respond to climate change and promote green growth for the 2021-2030 period” project.
The initiative aimed to expand the area of mangrove forests and achieve environmental and economic development goals./.
