Maryland, Vietnamese localities to increase engagements

WashingtonDC (VNA) – The US’s Maryland state and Vietnamese localities havegood potential to expand cooperation, said Maryland Lieutenant Governor BoydRutherford.

Hemade the statement at a recent meeting with visiting Vietnamese Ambassador tothe US Pham Quang Vinh, who was of the same opinion.

Theyagreed to work together in facilitating particular joint projects based on the strengthof sides involved.

Themeeting took place as part of Vinh’s working visit to Maryland on February 1and 2, during which he delivered a speech in front of 200 members of theInternational Club of Annapolis.

Inhis speech, Vinh underscored the thriving Vietnam - US ties as comprehensive partnership,with bilateral trade revenue recording an annual average growth of over 20percent. 

Hesaid he expects Maryland and Vietnamese localities to further strengthencollaboration in trade, investment and education.

Whilein Maryland, the Vietnamese diplomat also met with Superintendent of the UnitedStates Naval Academy Walter Carter, who acknowledged progress made in the twocountries’ defence cooperation thanks to past agreements.

Vietnamis currently ranked among top 20 trade partners of Maryland. The US’ easternstate is twined with Vietnam’s Ninh Thuan province.-VNA

NA deputies continue to discuss amendments to Constitution on May 14

The draft resolution to amend and supplement certain articles of the 2013 Constitution comprises two main articles. Article 1 outlines eight proposed amendments and additions to existing constitutional provisions, focusing on the role of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) and other socio-political organisations, administrative units, and the organisation of local government. Article 2 contains three clauses dealing with enforcement and transitional provisions of the amendments.
