Nguyen Duy Duy, born in 1996, is the person behind the idea of making paper lanterns to promote Vietnamese cultural values. Duy has created a collection called "Vietnam - Country - People" with nearly 15 works.
Duy’s artistic lantern is a combination of traditional Japanese paper-cutting art, Vietnamese lantern, and Chinese shadow puppets.
In the "People" section, Duy chooses to honor some outstanding costumes of Vietnamese women, from the Nguyen Dynasty to the present. Those are the Vietnamese nhat binh dress, tac dress, tu than (four pieces) shirt, and modern ao dai.
As a person who lives in Hanoi for a long time, Duy loves the city and has more works about the city in his "Country" section.
The works use the images of Hoan Kiem lake or railway in Hanoi to represent the North. Meanwhile, Hue Citadel represents the Central. While images of rivers in the Southwest represent the South.
Duy said that "Vietnam" was the most difficult section. In the end, Duy decided to use four famous art forms of Vietnam to represent the country. Those are water puppetry, boi singing, Hue royal court music, and the Central Highlands gong cultural space./.
