In the first phase, the project will build the six-lane Cao Lanh Bridge crossing the Tien River and approaching roads with a total length of 7.8km; the Vam Cong Bridge crossing the Hau River with a length of 5.8 km and six lanes; and a 15.7km six-lane road connecting the two bridges.

The phase has a total investment of 751 million USD funded by the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAid), the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and capital from the Vietnamese Government.

According to Deputy Minister of Transport Ngo Thinh Duc, once completed, the two bridges and the linking road will benefit 170,000 people travelling on this route every day and 3 million residents in three provinces of An Giang, Can Tho and Dong Thap.

The project will also improve the connection between Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta’s southeast areas, he said./.
