Figurines of four eminent Vietnamese generals, namely Ly Thuong Kiet, Tran Quoc Tuan, Nguyen Hue and Vo Nguyen Giap, were unveiled to the public during a ceremony in Hanoi last weekend.
The figurines are part of a project titled Vietnam’s Eminent Generals jointly organised by Heritage Inns and Circle Group in collaboration with the Vietnam History Association and UNESCO.
The project aims to commemorate the legendary generals in an effort to recognise thousands who have served in Vietnam’s 4000-year history.
Large statues of Tran Quoc Tuan and Nguyen Hue already stand in Nam Dinh and Hanoi, and were used to model the smaller duplicates.
According to Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Vuong Duy Bien, the production of the statues as special gifts will cement the importance of the national heroes in daily life.
The samples of Ly Thuong Kiet and General Vo Nguyen Giap have already been shown to experts and the public for review. They are scheduled for an official introduction on the 60th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu victory in May 2014.
The figurines will be made from different materials including bronze, stone and plaster, white sculptors are reportedly working to ensure that the statues resemble their real life counterparts and convey the spirit of the illustrious quartet.-VNA
