Construction of a monument in commemoration of the late Prime Minister Vo Van Kiet started in Vung Liem town, Vung Liem district, the Mekong Delta province of Vinh Long on Sept. 6.
Addressing the ground-breaking ceremony, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said Kiet was a talented leader of the Party and State and an outstanding pupil of late President Ho Chi Minh who had devoted all his life to the national liberation, country’s reunification and construction.
He also requested Vinh Long province and Vung Liem district, in particular, to collect documents and souvenirs relating to the life and revolutionary cause of the late leader.
Covering an area of 17,000 sq.m, the monument is expected to complete in 2012.
Born in Vung Liem district in 1922, Prime Minister Vo Van Kiet is considered Vietnam ’s key economic reformer. He died in 2008 at the age of 85./.
