Hanoi (VNA) – Most people in the Philippines showed their support for the anti-drug campaign of Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, according to a latest survey launched by Pulse Asia Inc.

The survey, conducted from September 24 to 30, showed that 88 percent of 1,200 respondents in the country support Duterte’s fight against drugs, while only two percent are not supportive and nine percent are unable to say if they support or do not support.

Ernesto Abella, spokesperson of the Philippine President said the government is pleased with the result of the survey, adding this goes to show that the people appreciate the administration's efforts to reduce the incidence of crime and make the streets safer and the communities more peaceful.

Last week, President Duterte handed over all anti-drug operations to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency following criticism on the implementation of police’s anti-drug campaign.

The Philippine government will focus on catching drug barons and drug-related politicians, preventing imports of drug to the Philippines or drug-making activities in localities.

Tackling crime, especially drug crime, has been the top priority of President Duterte. According to statistics, police have killed 9,000 people in the drug crackdown since Duterte assumed power in June, 2016.-VNA
