Muay Thai fighters strike gold at ABG5

Da Nang (VNA) – Nguyen Tran Duy Nhat took gold for Vietnam in Muay Thai at the 5th Asian Beach Games (ABG5) after beating Wang Wengfeng of China in the men’s lightweight (57-60kg) final in Da Nang on September 26.

Nhat took a win on points 30-27 after three rounds, with feverish support from home fans at East Sea Park.

Vietnamese Bui Thi Hai Yen added one more gold for Vietnam when she beat Thailand’s Wankhruea Chenchira in the women’s lightweight (57-60kg) class.

Bui Yen Ly won gold too when she beat Thailand’s Srisalai Nitiyakorn 30—27 in the women’s flyweight (48-51kg).

Thailand’s Pinthong Phitsanu beat Singapore’s Tee Bryan in the men’s Light Flyweight (45-48kg) final to take gold for Thailand.

In three-a-side basketball, Vietnam women’s team beat Chinese Taipei 20-18 in the women’s preliminary.

Tran Thanh Lam and Nguyen Thanh An defeated Chinese Taipei Lin Yi Chao and Liao Po Yu in jujitsu duos with a score of 38.5-34.5 the same day.

After three competition days at the ABG5, Thailand took the lead in the medal table with 15 gold, 8 silver and 11 bronze medals.

Vietnam followed with 9 golds, 12 silvers and 18 bronzes while China was in third places with 5 golds, 5 silvers and 8 bronzes.-VNA
