Myanmar arrests 206 drug traffickers on border with Thailand

Myanmar’s police said on June 28 that they have captured a total of 206 drug smugglers, including 36 females, on the Myanmar-Thailand border in the first half of 2017.

Hanoi (VNA) – Myanmar’s police said on June 28 that they have captured atotal of 206 drug smugglers, including 36 females, on the Myanmar-Thailandborder in the first half of 2017.

Approximately278,000 methamphetamine pills, 3.08 grams of crystal methamphetamine, 66.39grams of marijuana, 80 grams of opium leaves, 20 grams opium power and otherillicit drugs were seized during the arrests.

Thesuspects have been handled in line with Myanmar’s law.

OnJune 26, respective local authorities in Yangon, Mandalay and Taunggyi burned 385million USD worth of unlawful narcotic drugs to mark the 30th International Dayagainst Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

Altogether1,323 kg of opium, 735 kg of heroin and 131.28 million tablets of stimulantswere put on fire.-VNA
