Myanmar discovers terrorist training camps in western region

Myanmar security forces found evidence of some training camps secretly run by terrorists in Mayu mountain in Buthidaung-Maungtaw area of western Rakhine state, said the State Counsellor Office.

Hanoi (VNA) - Myanmar securityforces found evidence of some training camps secretly run by terrorists in Mayumountain in Buthidaung-Maungtaw area of western Rakhine state, said the StateCounsellor Office.

A statement of the office on June 22 notedthat three armed attackers were killed during the area clearance operation bythe security forces over the past two days.

In addition, security forces also discovereda secret tunnel and seized home-made weapons, huts, rations, utensils and otheritems used in the terrorist training.

Plotting to control and influence Maungtawarea, the terrorists had killed 34 innocent people and abducted 22 others,according to the statement. 

Myanmar’s security forces also made asurprise raid in Kyungaung village on June 20, arresting a member of the ArakanRohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) in charge of finance. The arrested confessed thatthe October 2016 attack on border police outposts in Maungtaw was carried outby the Islamic group Aqua Mul Mujahidin.

The attack, which killed five soldiers andeight policemen, led to the formation of a special investigation commission ledby First Vice President U Myint Swe.-VNA
