Hanoi (VNA) - Myanmar's newly-elected House of Representatives on February 5 formed a 23-member commission to review legal affairs and special cases during its ongoing first session in the capital city of Nay Pyi Taw.

The commission is led by former Speaker of the Lower House U Shwe Mann as Chairman, and U Ko Ko Naing of the Union Solidarity and Development Party as Vice Chairman. Its term will last five years.

The first session of the two new houses came nearly three months after the end of the general election on November 8, 2015, in which the National League for Democracy (NLD), led by Aung San Suu Kyi, won an absolute majority of the parliamentary seats.

U Win Myint of the NLD was elected as Speaker of the House of Representatives and U Ti Khun Myat of the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) as Deputy Speaker.

Meanwhile, Mann Win Khaing of the NLD became Speaker of the House of Nationalities (Upper House) and Aye Tha Aung of the Arakan National Party (ANP) became Deputy Speaker.

The first sessions of the regional and state parliaments are set to begin on February 8.-VNA
