Yangon (VNA) – Myanmar’s new President U Win Myint has pledged to promote changes for the stronger development of the country, believing that the objective could be realised through the pursuit of united strength.

President U Win Myint made the remarks on April 17, the first day of Myanmar's traditional New Year festival Thingyan.

He called on all-level administrations to transparently implement commitments under the basis of "Non-impact on stability to bring about changes".

The President demonstrated his determination to promote development of the country through pursuing three prioritised objectives, including law enforcement and socio-economic development; national reconciliation; and amendment of the constitution for the establishment of a democratic federal union, which he mentioned in his inaugural speech at the Union Parliament.

He called for applying the government's development policy, stressing the priority to foster socio-economic development, upgrade electricity network, and support small- and medium-sized enterprises in accessing loans.

President U Win Myint also asked for efforts to back up the judiciary, and to boost corruption fighting, human rights protection and drug trafficking.

U Win Myint, former speaker of the House of Representatives, won the presidential election on March 28.

The presidential election was hosted by the Union Parliament to fill the presidency vacancy left by U Htin Kyaw, who previously announced resignation, citing health reason.-VNA
