Myanmar tightens security ahead of ASEAN summit

Myanmar has coordinated with the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol) to tighten security at the Yangon International Airport ahead of the 24th ASEAN Summit in Nay Pyi Taw.
Myanmar has coordinated with the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol) to tighten security at the Yangon International Airport ahead of the 24th ASEAN Summit in Nay Pyi Taw.

Interpol has sent officers from the Republic of Korea, Canada, and Slovenia to Myanmar to help in screening for suspects, as part of the counter-terrorism measures.

During a Myanmar visit in January 2013, Interpol Secretary General Ronald K Noble, pledged to enhance security cooperation with Myanmar law enforcement authorities by connecting airports and border crossings in the country to Interpol’s passport screening system.

The ASEAN summit will take place at the Myanmar International Convention Centre on May 10-11.-VNA
