Myanmar to hold general election in November

Myanmar will hold a historic general election on November 8 this year, the country’s Union Election Commission (UEC) announced on July 8.
Myanmar will hold a historic general election on November 8 this year, the country’s Union Election Commission (UEC) announced on July 8.

The UEC has designated a total of 1,171 constituencies across the country for the vote, including 330 set for election of the House of Representatives (Lower House), 168 for the House of Nationalities (Upper House), 644 for Region or State Parliaments and 29 for Region or State Parliaments for National Races.

Political parties participating in the election are expected to be announced later.

The 2015 general election in Myanmar will vote in parliamentarians for the next five year tenure.

The current term of the government, which started in March 2011, is to expire in March 2016.-VNA
