Myanmar's next general election will be held in late 2015, local media quoted Chairman of the Union Election Commission U Tin Aye as saying.
After a meeting with political parties this weekend, U Tin Aye said the commission will ensure the election free and fair under a strategic plan and the election by-law is under amendment in order to avoid repeating the weak points that the last general election in 2010 and the by-election in 2012 experienced.
He called on political parties to cooperate and try their best to hold the election in a free and fair manner.
Myanmar held a general election on November 7, 2010, establishing a civilian government led by President U Thein Sein. Its by-election on April 1, 2012 saw the opposition party, the National League for Democracy (NLD) of Aung San Suu Kyi won 43 out of 45 open parliamentary seats.-VNA
